Learning to Sing

I dreamt last night that in order to gain access to a higher education program, I had to get up in front of an audience and sing a song.

Now, in my waking life, singing well and on key is not one of the talents I was blessed with. Everyone who has heard me will agree. Even the cat's ears rotate into the no sound position every time I start to let loose in the privacy of our home.

In my dream I had very little time to choose the song. I walked through the main street of the small town where I was to perform, rehearsing the song I had chosen. Once I lost my fear, I began to hit the right notes. Then I began to find my own way of styling the song, making it may own. It was a joyous process and the people on the street showed their support whenever our eyes met. The dream ended with me onstage in the small club, getting ready for the final rehearsal.

Here is the song I chose:

GIVE ME THE BEAT BOYS
by Mentor Williams

Day after day I'm more confused
But I look for the light through the pouring rain
You know that's a game that I hate to lose
Now I'm feeling the strain
Aint it a shame?

(Chorus)

Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll
And drift away
Give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll
And drift away

Beginning to think that I'm wasting time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
I'm counting on you
To carry me through

(Chorus)

And when my mind is free you know melody can move me
And when I'm feeling blue the guitar's coming through to soothe me
Thanks for the joy that you've given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Your rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You've helped me along
You're making me strong

(Chorus)

(Repeat chorus 2 times)

Now now now won't you take me?
Oh oh take me
Fly high..
